Adapting & Modifying Advanced Adventures #25: The Heart of Empire By Benton Wilson From Expeditious Retreat Press For Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyberborea Second Edition

"The capital of the Venirian Empire has been re-located back to Venir, and a thriving city has been built above the swallowed ruins of the old city. Various connections to the old city can be found in the sewers, cellars, and other underground portions of the rebuilt city of Venir, and adventurers frequently plumb these depths in search of the secrets and treasures of the empire’s glory days. What lurks beneath the Heart of Empire?"

So I looking around the Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea second edition forums & found a reference to
Benton Wilson 's  Advanced Adventures #25: The Heart of Empire last night.  So I knew that I had Beneath the Heart of Empire on my hard drive & began looking back into it. There are a number of buttons that this adventure clicks for a Sword & Sorcery campaign.

Beneath the Heart of Empire is geared for a moderate mix of PC's levels levels six to ten with six to ten players meaning that this is a convention style adventure. The layout is well done, the traps deadly, the artwork is well done, & the material fresh enough to keep things light but play going quick!

Its a wall to wall adventure with much of the action taking place in the underground sewers & warrens of  the capital of the Venirian Empire which has been re-located back to Venir. The PC's are going toe to toe with monsters that can rip off their faces & comeback for more. The overall feel is claustrophobic & somewhat nerve wracking. I mean this in the best possible way for getting your PC's through the maze of twisting & turning weirdness that is ruins & dungeons of the interior of the
Venirian Empire.

Adapting
Advanced Adventures #25: Beneath the Heart of Empire to Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea second edition isn't all that hard with the heart of  the Venirian Empire standing in for another capital area of the Hyperboreans.
The focus is going to be on the local human culture living in the shadow of a much older, more dangerous & in some cases one with a Clark Ashton Smith shadow ironically casting itself over the works of the humans.

As a campaign jump off point for a large group of AS&SH players
"Advanced Adventures #25: The Heart of Empire  From  Expeditious Retreat Press" has some solid hits to bring a long lasting Swords & Sorcery campaign off of the ground! Overall I was pretty impressed with the amount of minor detail & expansion of play available in
"Advanced Adventures #25: The Heart of Empire . The quality & content lend me to possibly think about getting into more of Expeditious Retreat Press adventures in the future within my own home campaign setting.
